A Morning at Numatic International

Finding out more about Numatic through SBA’s ‘Connecting to the Workplace’ Event

Our day started in Chard, where Numatic International is based and carries out all its operations. We received a warm welcome and sat down for an introductory talk to learn more about the company. Best known for the famous Henry Hoover, Numatic also designs and manufactures a range of cleaning products such as hoovers, carpet cleaners, floor machines and ride-on equipment for homes and industries, including hospitality, health care, and construction.

Numatic has over 12000 people working across various departments, including operations, research and development, sales and marketing. Career opportunities range from purchasing, video editors, product designers, assembly operatives and much more.

We learned that Numatic deeply values employee well-being, offering benefits such as regular eye tests, health monitoring, a cycle-to-work scheme, and free chiropractor visits. They also provide opportunities for employees to develop skills and knowledge outside of work, helping them advance their careers. One inspiring story we heard was about an employee who progressed from a factory operative role to a position in the sales department through these opportunities.

Later, we toured the manufacturing facility, witnessing a variety of operations, from welding and rotational moulding to both hands-on and robotic assembly processes. Numatic is also committed to sustainability as a zero-waste company. We saw how any unsuccessful plastic moulds are shredded and reused in other products, ensuring minimal waste.

Overall, the visit provided valuable insights into Numatic’s operations, career opportunities, and a strong commitment to both employees and sustainability.
